kill it with fire
1982 sucked.
Like, I like to, like, like liking... ya know?
great, now i have a giant slit in my monitor where i stabbed this video with a knife.
That... made my brain hurt. For anyone else, when you're ready to close it, skip to the 5:50 mark. It redeems the whole video slightly.
Loved that show. That and That's Incredible.
But... but... but who won? I watched that whole thing, only to be left hanging!? Great, now how will I know who to go back and kill when i finally invent time travel?
fuckin Fred Willard. So full of win

I remember That's Incredible... however, many of their most fantastic appearances have been discredited as frauds.
lol wut?
I remember watching this one when it aired. Was kind of obsessed with the song at the time.
BAG YOUR FACE!
did they really talk like this? i would feel pretty uncomfortable having a conversation with one of these girls. they need to talk right.
"Vals" were cool chicks to hang out with once they got high and that persona went out the windows.

The source of Like.
I thought Like Likes came from Hyrule.

It did. Look at all the albums and movies release in 1982 and tell me you don't barf afterward.
Someone needs to do a followup and find out where the winners are now in life. I'm sort of hoping for burned-out and hiding from creditors after their valley homes were foreclosed on in the crisis, but the reality is probably closer to normal PTA moms who indulge their children a little too much.
Thank you Frank.
Moon Zappa..?! Who the hell gives a name like that?
Moonzappah!

Her full name is Moon Unit Zappa, Frank Zappa's Daughter. His son's name is Dweezil Zappa.
This would only be cool if they were doing the Macarena, followed by a spirited rendition of "Whoomp! There It Is"
Oh, fads. Time is so unkind to you.

I made it through about 3 minutes. Then I grabbed my letter opener and gouged out my ears.
lulz -- haven't seen Byron Allen in a while

How valley girls talked in the 80s is pretty much how everyone outside of subculture groups (ala Fazed) types on the Internet nowadays.
Example: omg I no your the one for me ;) j/k
Same stupidity, different millenium.

That sounds like Sarah Purcell. I guess this was from Real People?
I love how they had Moon Unit and mentioned her father's song, which Moon Unit provided back up on. The song was a complete jab at the Valley Girls and was meant to mock them.
All of you hating this. Do you ever use the words like, or um, totally? I bet you do. The untintelligent banter of our everyday vocabulary still includes fragments of this valley speak. This movement caused the whole country, if not the whole world to pick up ideosyncrisies of the L.A. Valley's children's linguistics. It's kind of amazing. Totally. For sure. To the max.

I use "like" when I'm talking about something that is similar but not exactly the same as something else. I use "totally" when something is complete. They are not filler words. This "movement" can go fuck itself.
You completely don't know what you are talking about haha.
@zorro not you phile
Ah 1982... back when she was just a pony...
"This is I think...is our future right here. I'm looking for the leaders, I'm looking for presidential quality."
"Self respecting val"?
They lost me at "looking for the most articulate"

he's right, this stuff happens like crazy through tv, movies and the internet. our popular culture is spread by our media all over the world. stupid hollywood colloquialisms such as "i SO don't want to yadda yadda" or the widespread misuse and abuse of "literally" are used daily by hollywood writers, picked up and spread by airheads in chatrooms and they become common place.
/SO totally armchair sociologizing
yo that's not what i meant. i'm not arguing about the existence of catchphrases and language change lol. i'm saying when dude says "like" "um" "totally" and other hesitation utterances exist because of "valley speak".
everyone on the planet should read this book it addresses things like the media's influence (or lack thereof) on language change:
